The Manila Symphony Orchestra continues its season concert series with Rockestra 2018 on July 29, 6 p.m., at The Theatre at Solaire. The concert features rock guitarist Noli Aurillo and top OPM band, Silent Sanctuary, conducted by MSO principal conductor and artistic director Prof. Arturo Molina.
Though the MSO has been know to collaborate with several pop singers, rock bands, and even DJs, it is the first time for the orchestra to highlight this in its concert season. Audiences will enjoy a classical-rock fusion concert of some of the most iconic rock tunes as well as Silent Sanctuary’s OPM hits.
Noli Aurillo is a composer, arranger, and freelance guitar sessionist who has performed with the likes of Asin, Side A, Johnoy Danao, and Glaiza de Castro. In 2002, he bagged the Best Musical Arranger at the Awit Awards. Critics and musicians alike regard Noli as the country’s foremost solo acoustic guitarist today.
Silent Sanctuary is a five-piece Filipino rock band formed in 2001. A two-time Myx Favorite Group awardee, they have performed all over the Philippines as well as in Dubai and have produced numerous hit singles. They are made up of Sarkie Sarangay (vocals/guitar), Jason Rondero (bass/back-up vocals), Allen Calixto (drums), Anjo Inacay (cello), and Kim Mirandilla Ng (violin). Both Anjo and Kim were members of the MSO as cello principal and second violin principal, respectively.
Noli Aurillo and Silent Sanctuary have been long-time collaborators with the MSO, previously being featured at part of the orchestra Rush Hour concert series and other performances.
