Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda brought his unmistakable Pinoy rock energy to CenterPlay, City of Dreams Manila, for a night of OPM favorites, stories, and the kind of live-wire banter fans have come to expect.
OPM rock fans got a hefty dose of Pinoy rock energy when Chito Miranda and friends took the stage at CenterPlay, City of Dreams Manila, on August 19 at 9:30 p.m. The sold-out performance was the latest highlight of CenterPlay’s monthly Concert Series, which has showcased some of the country’s most enduring and celebrated OPM artists.
From Club Dredd to rock icon
Miranda, best known as the charismatic frontman of Parokya ni Edgar, began his journey to rock icon status in the 1990s, when his band regularly performed at Club Dredd, one of Manila’s legendary rock venues. The band quickly gained popularity during the height of the Filipino rock explosion, which was influenced by international grunge bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden.
Dubbed by local media as “The National Band of the Philippines,” Parokya ni Edgar has sold more than 600,000 albums nationwide, with hits such as “Buloy,” “Harana,” “Halaga,” and “Silvertoes” cementing their place in OPM history. Their debut album, Khangkhungkherrnitz (1996), and follow-up, Buruguduystunstugudunstuy (1997), both achieved triple-platinum status, while their witty novelty songs and satirical covers showcased their versatility across genres.
Under Miranda’s leadership, the band earned accolades including an MTV Southeast Asian Music Video Award for “Harana” in 1999 and induction into the Eastwood City Walk of Fame in 2017 for their influence on Pinoy rock. Their legacy continues to inspire generations of music lovers, making their live performances celebrations of OPM’s enduring spirit.
The CenterPlay show delivered a powerhouse set filled with timeless hits, playful banter, and the unmistakable energy that has made Miranda and Parokya ni Edgar fixtures of the Filipino music scene.
