Qantas today launched its increased services between Manila and Sydney to daily services, as the airline celebrates its 68th year of service to the Philippines. Coinciding with the commencement of daily services, Qantas has also moved operations to Terminal 3 (see attached media note).
Since September 1950, Qantas commenced commercial passenger service between Sydney and Manila. Prior to that, Qantas operated a mail service and medical service as a military chartered courier between Australia and Japan, via Clark Field, Pampanga from 1947 to 1949.
Fast forward to today, Qantas has one of the world’s youngest international fleet, including the Dreamliner Boeing 787-9, with over 20% of its wide body fleet now devoted to Asia.
In celebration of the milestone, Qantas held a Pinoy-Aussie themed party at NAIA Terminal 3’s Manila Life Café. The event featured Pinoy-Aussie food and beverage such as Australian mini meat pies, and lamingtons, as well as Pinoy fare such as sisig and popular Filipino street food.
Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Amanda Gorely together with Qantas chief representative Honeybee Hubahib led the toast with a selection of cocktail drinks made for the occasion – Manila Sunset, Sydney Surprise and Flying Roo – to celebrate 68 years of Qantas in the Philippines.
To add to the festivities, a mini photo exhibition of Qantas’ history in the Philippines, along with performances by Aussie-Pinoy talents were featured. Evan Spargo (player for the Philippine Volcanoes) hosted the event while DJ Kristian Hernandez, DMC QLD Champion, set the mood with great Australian music and beats.
