In 2016, New Zealand and the Philippines are celebrating fifty years of diplomatic relations. In honour of this occasion, the New Zealand Embassy presents an exhibit entitled Open Spaces: New Zealand through the Lens of a Filipino.
This exhibit features photographs of New Zealand landscapes by renowned Filipino photographer, Jose Mari “Mayie” Delgado. This New Zealand landscape portfolio is a photographic narrative of Mayie’s recent visits to the North and South Islands of New Zealand, driving hundreds of kilometres from Auckland to Wellington, and from Christchurch to Queenstown. This fresh collection, captured by 35mm and medium format digital cameras immortalizes the paradise landscapes of New Zealand from a fresh perspective, the eyes of a Filipino.

New Zealand Ambassador David Strachan says, “We are pleased to show another side of New Zealand’s scenery to Filipinos. Mayie’s photographs beautifully capture New Zealand’s extraordinary landscape in a unique way.”
Strachan said that the collection of photographs highlights the pristine nature of New Zealand’s countryside which produces world class dairy products, wine and meat to global markets, including the Philippines.
“We warmly welcome Filipinos to experience New Zealand through their own eyes,” Strachan adds.
“More and more Filipino tourists are travelling to New Zealand – around 20,000 Filipinos visited New Zealand last year.”

Early this month, Immigration New Zealand announced a new partnership with Philippine Airlines. PAL’s Million Miler, Premier Elite, and Elite level Mabuhay Miles members are now eligible to receive streamlined visa processing from INZ, making it even easier for them to apply for a New Zealand visitor visa. Philippine Airlines has a four times weekly service between Manila and Auckland (via Cairns).
Open Spaces: New Zealand through the Lens of a Filipino is presented in partnership with Philippine Airlines. The exhibition is supported by Fonterra Brands and Don Revy wines.
The exhibit is on view at Yuchengco Museum from September 21 to October 5, 2016. The museum is located at RCBC Plaza, corner Ayala and Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenues, Makati. Museum hours are Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
