The Manila Symphony Orchestra opens its 2018 concert season dubbed Year of the  Titans on June 3, 6 p.m., at The Theatre at Solaire.
The concert, entitled “The Color of Music,” features Mussorgsky’s imagistic Pictures at  an Exhibition; Wagner’s dramatic Tristan and Isolde Prelude and Liebestod; and  Dvorak’s Cello Concerto No. 2 with German cellist Claus Kanngiesser as guest soloist, conducted by MSO artistic director and principal conductor Prof. Arturo Molina.

Claus Kanngiesser enjoys a rich musical life as soloist, chamber-music player, teacher, director, juror and advisor. A multi-awarded musician, he won the ARD competition, the highest national competition Munich (1967), as well as the Maurice Loeb New York (1968) and UNESCO competition Paris (1970).
His career started with a performance of the Brahms Double Concerto, with the esteemed Yehudi Menuhin as violin-partner. Since then, Kanngiesser performed numerous concerts with leading orchestras under well-known conductors. In 1971, he was appointed as the youngest german Professor for Violoncello at the Musikhochschule Saarbrücken. From 1993-2001, he was the artistic director of the oldest german chamber-music festival “Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker”.
His students have gone on to concertize as soloists, chamber-music players, first desk orchestra members all over the world. As a jury member, he has sat on the panel of several prestigious international competitions.
