Bonifacio Global City, Philippines – MITSUKOSHI BGC, the country’s first Japanese-inspired mall by Federal Land, proudly celebrates its 2nd anniversary with an immersive, heartfelt tribute to tradition and community through Tanabata Matsuri, the Japanese festival of star-crossed lovers. From July 18 to August 17, MITSUKOSHI BGC transforms into a vibrant celebration space—blending the elegance of Japanese culture with the warmth of Filipino festivity
A Cultural Celebration Like No Other
The Tanabata Matsuri, inspired by the romantic legend of Hikoboshi and Orihime, takes center stage as the theme for this year’s milestone. Traditionally celebrated on July 7 in Japan, Tanabata honors the reunion of two lovers separated by the Milky Way, evoking emotions of longing, love, and hope—sentiments that resonate deeply with Filipinos. At MITSUKOSHI BGC, the spirit of Tanabata is captured in vibrant tanzaku cards hung on bamboo trees, colorful lanterns, and festive installations that set the perfect tone for a season of celebration.
“This is more than a mall anniversary—it’s a tribute to connection, culture, and community,” shared Yoji Kawaguchi, General Manager of MITSUKOSHI BGC, during the anniversary ceremony on July 18. “We want our customers to feel Japan and create memorable experiences here.”
July 18: An Evening of Meaning and Milestones
The official anniversary celebration kicked off with a traditional KagamiBiraki ceremony—symbolizing harmony and gratitude. The evening also featured the reveal of Mitsuko, MITSUKOSHI BGC’s beloved Kokeshi doll, now dressed in her festive Tanabata summer look, joyfully welcoming guests at the 8th Avenue entrance.

“This space has become more than just a mall. It’s a human destination,” shared Thomas Mirasol, Vice Chairman of Federal Land, Inc. “With recognition such as the Best Lifestyle Mall Award at the 2025 Retail & Leisure Awards, what matters most is the joy and connection our guests feel here.”
