The most amazing music festival experience is set to kick-off its eighth year, when the Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival brings its eclectic mix of art, lights, and sounds to delightfully assault your senses on Mar. 23-25.
As it is wont to do, the Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival has curated a lineup that’ll showcase some of the world’s most inspiring artists and rising new talent. One of reggae’s signature bands – Big Mountain – will be headlining this year’s musical acts. Joining them are Australian quartet Hiatus Kaiyote, up and coming songwriter Micki Miller, Laneous, and Calfornia-based Filipino rapper/femme-cee Ruby Ibarra, among a slew of other talents from around the globe.

The arts
Central to the Malasimbo concept is its art program, which has grown each year with the addition of new pieces to the venue’s sculpture garden. This year, a new theater program has been added to the event’s art exhibition, with the performance of the play Lorax performed by the children of the Stairway Foundation.
The cause
Malasimbo draws some 5,000 festival-goers each year to Puerto Galera, and continues to champion Filipino tourism and culture by gathering incredible international and local talents in the surreal setting that is the Malasimbo Amphitheater. Apart from bringing different cultures together, the event also shares the indigenous Mangyan culture through a showcase of crafts and customs, designed to help preserve the unique heritage of the area. As well, in line with its commitment to environmental sustainability, the festival ensures limited no plastic use on the site.

Getting there
Mayor Rocky Ilagan has been working overtime to prepare a new mode of transport for tourists traveling from Batangas to Puerto Galera. A fully enclosed fast craft seating up to 200 passengers has been set in place to improve transfers.
Meanwhile, brand new villas and resorts have been continually developed in recent years to accommodate festival goers. Those who plan to attend this years festivities are advised to book early, as Malasimbo is happening during the peak school holiday schedule.
