Makati is the home of various Christmas initiatives that have become annual traditions. For decades, families have been flocking together to witness the brightly-lit, 1.9 kilometers stretch of Ayala Avenue with festive decorations that fascinate adults and children alike.
The Makati Central Business District welcomed the holiday season once again at Ayala Avenue’s annual lighting ceremony with the beloved tradition going as far back as the 1960s.
“The lighting of Christmas decors at Ayala Avenue marks the beginning of the Christmas season in the MCBD. This year is even more meaningful and special because we, again, can invite the community to experience Christmas live—or in real life here in Makati,” emphasized Bobby Dy, President and CEO of Ayala Land.
November 3: Ayala Avenue Ceremonial Lighting of Christmas Decors
Ayala Land lit up Ayala Avenue to officially welcome the Christmas season. Designed by one of the most sought after event stylists, Zenas Pineda, the installations are reminiscent of valued Filipino traditions and are symbols of positivity for the future.
“Over the past two years, we talked about hope and brighter days ahead. And I think we can all agree that brighter days are already here. The city’s once again bustling with activity not only in the offices but also in the malls and establishments around the city where we can see more people spending time with their loved ones, friends, and co-workers. Truly, this is a renewed confidence in business, the economy, and community convergence. This year’s decorations reflect this positive sentiment,” mused Bobby Dy.
The ceremony is putting local heritage on the forefront as ornaments commonly found in holiday-decorated Filipino homes—like parols, stars, and lights with capiz ornaments—adorn the Makati Central Business District. In the spirit of keeping cherished traditions and in line with Ayala Land’s advocacy for sustainability, the giant parols from last year’s decorations will remain to be the main element.
“In keeping with our sustainability thrust, we are adding but we are also reusing the parol decorations from the previous year. With this, we will be lighting up more portions of Ayala Avenue,” furthered Bobby Dy.
On top of last year’s five giant parols, 12 stars at Ayala Avenue, lights with capiz ornaments, and six stars at Ayala Triangle Gardens, Ayala Land added three more giant parols along Tower One, one giant parol and 40 stars along VA Rufino to Paseo, one giant parol and 50 stars along Makato Ave to EDSA, and one giant parol at Ayala Triangle Gardens to make this year’s Christmas even bigger and brighter. The newly installed giant parol by the courtyard of Ayala Triangle Gardens also makes it easier for visitors to have their photo taken closer to the decorations.
“As you take in the sights and sounds that mark the beginning of our Christmas celebrations, I wish for all proud Makatizens to be filled with joy, happiness, and hope,” expressed Honorable Abby Binay, Mayor of Makati.
