200 years of tradition. A new design that honors time and shapes trends. Ready for the future of whisky?
When you think of The Macallan, you’re not just thinking about whisky. You’re thinking about mastery. With a legacy spanning over 200 years—since 1824, when founder Alexander Reid first distilled the spirit in Speyside, Scotland—the brand has been at the forefront of distilling excellence. Over nearly two centuries, the brand has cultivated a reputation for crafting whiskies that are as rich in flavor as they are in heritage. The distillery’s commitment to using sherry-seasoned oak casks—a technique that has defined The Macallan’s complex, deep flavors—is at the core of everything they do.
But even a name like The Macallan can’t rest on its laurels forever. That’s why they’ve turned to graphic design legend David Carson to give their iconic Double Cask, Sherry Oak, and Colour Collection a daring new visual identity—one that honors the distillery’s rich heritage while pointing to things to come.
The visionary behind the new look
David Carson isn’t your average designer. Renowned for his edgy, innovative work, Carson was the perfect fit for a brand like The Macallan, which has always been about pushing boundaries while respecting tradition. “Like whisky, design is all about balance,” Carson explains. “With The Macallan, I wanted to create a visual identity that respects its rich history and encapsulates its forward-thinking spirit.” This mindset is visible in every detail, from the bottle’s sleek shape to the intricate label design—each element serves to create a narrative that connects the brand’s past to its exciting future.
A bottle as gorgeous as the distillery
The vibrant new design was unveiled in the Philippines in November 2025 at Uma Nota Manila, helmed by Macallan Brand Advocate/Ambassador for the Philippines, Hans Eckstein. The fresh look doesn’t just reflect The Macallan’s whisky; it reflects its distillery, The Macallan Estate—an architectural marvel nestled in the rolling hills of Speyside, seamlessly blending modern design with the beauty of the Scottish hills surrounding it.
With the historic Easter Elchies House at its heart and the stunning River Spey running through the property, The Macallan Estate is as much a masterpiece as the whisky it produces, where nature, heritage, and creativity come together in perfect harmony. The sweeping, green-roofed silhouette of the Macallan Distillery was the inspiration behind the graceful, curved design of the bottle. The striking red tones are a nod to the “Red Enders” on the sherry-seasoned oak casks. Even the triangular shoulder label echoes Spain’s Sherry Triangle, where the exceptional sherry-seasoned oak casks are crafted, giving The Macallan its unique flavor profile. This isn’t just about updating a label—it’s a visual celebration of the natural influences that shape The Macallan, like the oak casks and the sherry wine from Jerez de la Frontera.
Crafting the Timeless Collections, from Speyside to the world
At the heart of The Macallan’s beloved Timeless Collections is a philosophy of balance and craftsmanship—values that have made The Macallan a household name among whisky lovers. Carson’s new designs speak to this dedication, elevating each collection while staying true to the flavors that made The Macallan legendary.
- Double Cask Collection
A harmonious blend of American and European oak casks that delivers a smooth, creamy texture with notes of fresh fruit, toffee, and a touch of sweetness from the American oak. As it matures, the whisky deepens, revealing baked fruits and soft spices. It’s a whisky that evolves—just like the brand. - Sherry Oak Collection
Sherry-seasoned European oak casks give this collection its rich, mahogany color and complex character. With notes of dried fruits, ginger, and wood spice, this is the whisky that embodies The Macallan’s heritage, a whisky that matures gracefully with age, just as the distillery itself has done over two centuries. - Colour Collection
With its American oak casks and sherry wine, this collection boasts a vibrant range of golden hues. It’s fresh, fruity, and vibrant, with citrus and vanilla notes that evolve into deeper tropical flavors over time. It’s a whisky that feels like a leap into the future—one sip, and you’re instantly transported.
The Macallan’s legacy and vision, in every sip
For Jaume Ferras, The Macallan’s Creative Director, this redesign is more than a new look; it’s a journey through time and into the future. “The Macallan has never stood still and never will. This distinctive new identity offers a multitude of visual cues to tell our story,” Ferras says. The integration of cutting-edge anti-counterfeit technology and a QR code on each bottle lets consumers engage more deeply with the story behind the whisky, creating an experience that’s as rich as the whisky itself.
A surefooted step into the future
The new designs mark the beginning of an exciting chapter for The Macallan. But don’t worry—the quality that’s made The Macallan a global icon remains unchanged. The bold new bottles are just the start of what’s shaping up to be the next era in whisky.
Whether you’re sipping a dram or simply appreciating the bottle, every element of The Macallan’s journey reflects a commitment to craftsmanship and quality that has never wavered—and likely never will.
