Ayala Malls furthers sustainability initiatives and observes WWF Philippines’ Earth Hour 2022
Cementing its commitment towards sustainability, Ayala Malls mobilizes multiple ways to uplift society starting with its internal business practices and extending to collaborations with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines.
Carbon neutrality has long been the goal of Ayala Malls. For many years, its policies and practices have promoted energy efficiency. Likewise, the WWF continues its annual Earth Hour celebration by hosting its lights-off program and a new virtual run. Alongside Ayala Malls as one of its key players, the organization aims to raise awareness about biodiversity loss and climate change.
Reduce greenhouse gas emissions with Ayala Malls
Ayala Malls is able to significantly reduce and offset its emissions through multiple initiatives, including those that involve the participation of customers.
Falling under Ayala Malls’ ongoing recycling and recovery program, the mall invites mallgoers to take part in its goal to reduce wastes sent to landfills by responsibly disposing plastics, paper, and reusable clothes in designated bins.
Additionally, patrons can take advantage of the newly installed sustainable transport system in Ayala Malls The 30th, Ayala Malls Circuit, and Ayala Malls Manila Bay. Featuring 30-seater mini-buses that are fully electric, mallgoers can travel from one end to another while promoting conservation of energy and protection of the environment. The project currently operates with AC Industrials’ Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (IMI), Global Electric Transportation (GET Philippines), and GREENSTRuM. More stations are set to launch at Ayala Malls located in and outside Metro Manila.

Among many other causes, the lifestyle mall also stands for the rejuvenation and regeneration of local forests through Change for the Environment donation drives, active forest planting, and various volunteer activities. Ayala Malls also supports Ayala Land’s Carbon Forest Voluntours, a program that sends volunteers to take care of the forest over a specified period.
Moving forward, Ayala Malls aims to initiate more nature conservation and preservation programs, and increased investments in low emissions and green technologies, to ultimately achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the shortest possible time.
Shut the lights with Ayala Malls during Earth Hour weekend
It’s that time of the year again! Patrons are invited to participate in WWF’s Earth Hour lights-off event across all Ayala Malls. The globally celebrated tradition shows support for the planet by raising awareness about biodiversity loss and climate change. As a key player in the humanitarian event, Ayala Malls will be turning off its lights between 7-8 p.m. on March 26. This event sees over 750 engaged merchants and total avoidance of at least 6,788kWh and 4,808 CO2e across all malls.
This initiative is not the first time Ayala Malls is taking a stand to support the environment. In 2018, the malls also partnered with WWF to promote the #AyokoNgPlastik movement, which aimed to bring awareness against single-use plastics and products with excessive plastic packaging. This 2022, Ayala Malls is offering its facilities to WWF once again not only to promote the light-off program but also to host the organization’s first-ever Earth Hour virtual run in the Philippines.
