The most terrifying thing about cancer is that it’s relentless and unforgiving. It somehow comes back over and over again. What is one to do? Fight back.
Yasmin Almonte wages her fourth battle with cancer today. It first struck her mandible, it was a kind of cancer that only two people have survived in the Philippines, and left her with half a jaw. The second and third occurrences have slowly been chipping away at her jaw bone, and this most recent occurence will leave her completely deformed.
Yasmin still smiles—for her children, her grandchildren, her students. She still wants to continue teaching at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts, where she has been molding students for the past 20 years. She fears for her life but she is ready to fight.
Yasmin may be ready to fight back again, but she still needs reinforcements. Her family is holding an auction of her paintings, all the proceeds of which will go to her medical bills. Anyone knows what serious illness can do to a family’s finances once, imagine that happening multiple times.
A door price of PhP 500 will be collected as donation for Yasmin. She’s up for a fight, and we’re hoping you can help us.
