Australia and the Philippines are taking their maritime partnership into new areas of cooperation. For the first time, Australian Border Force delivered vessel search training for Philippine Coast Guard officers in Sydney.
The course enhanced the Philippine Coast Guard’s capability to conduct safe, lawful and effective vessel search procedures. As Strategic Partners, the two countries are working together to combat transnational crime and respond to civil maritime challenges in our region.
“Australia is working closely with the Philippines to help keep our region peaceful, stable and prosperous,” said Australia’s Ambassador to the Philippines H.E. Marc Innes-Brown.
The course, which ran from March 2-6, 2026, underscored the strength of Australia-Philippines cooperation and our shared focus on disrupting the importation of illicit goods.
Transnational crime undermines regional stability and economic development and directly harms communities in Australia and in the Philippines. Safe and secure sea lanes are also critical to protecting Australia’s trade, supply chains and national security.
The training is delivered under the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Southeast Asia Maritime Partnerships – an initiative to address shared maritime security challenges.
