Carmela Geisert holds her first solo art exhibition, By Chance, at the German Club Manila, located at the Eurovilla II Penthouse in Makati until May 8 and curated by Jes Evangelista.
Inspired by her travel adventures and significant events happening globally, Geisert brings forth her first collection as an introduction not only to her craft but to a world of canvas that she envisions. By using the aqueous character of vibrant pigments, she manages to create artworks that evoke a time and a place, sometimes even a feeling, from memory.

Contrasting colors are melded together in elegant compositions, the sinuous flow of each tincture showing off its own character – blacks secure a visual foundation, reds from peaks and valleys of interest, as iridescent golds snake through and emphasize the presence of one line against the other.
It proposes varying realms of possibilities for art making as Geisert lets her paints flow into the directions they choose to go, with her gentle nudges still exerting control over the medium while giving it space to pool, stream, and run. There is unpredictability on fluid art yet results into whimsical, vivid and tasteful pieces.

Carmela Laurin-Geisert’s passion for art started in 2016, when she started sketching using pastel crayons and charcoal during long-haul flights – part and parcel of her profession as a jet-setting trailblazer in the local tourism industry for more than two decades. While exploring the character of paint on canvas, she became enthralled by the beauty, simplicity and serendipity of fluid art. Impassioned and enlivened by her new creative expression which previously ranged from travel, photography, makeup and fashion, Geisert is now fascinated and inspired by abstract expressionism, and is eager to explore this new life direction. Geisert is the President of the Asia Grand View Hotel in Coron, Palawan, and one of the recipients of 2005 Manila’s Best Dressed Awards.
