National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand
One of the most significant days in Thailand was celebrated last Dec. 5 at the Mayuree Ballroom of Dusit Thani Manila when Thai Ambassador Thanatip Upatising hosted a reception celebrating the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand.
Dec. 5th also marks the Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol
Adulyadej, and Thailand’s Father’s Day.
His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej is widely recognized for his efforts to improve the welfare and quality of life of his people by using his distinct Sufficiency and Economy philosophy. The philosophy is largely based on the underlying principles of moderation, reasonableness, prudence, and self-immunity.
As members of the Diplomatic Corps are wont to do, Ambassador Upatising used the Manila celebration to highlight the rich and vibrant culture of Thailand – with a sumptuous Thai cuisine spread – while also giving a nod to the continually strengthening diplomatic ties between his country and the Philippines.
When Thailand and the Philippines signed a Treaty of Friendship in 1949, it was the first time the latter established formal diplomatic relations with a state in Southeast Asia.
