Asian Eye culminates its 15th Year with More Clinics and International Healthcare Accreditation
From one surgical clinic in Rockwell Center, Makati in 2001, Asian Eye Institute marked its 15th year with a network of 9 clinics manned by 18 internationally-trained specialists and over 150 staff, as well as over 15 local and international research recognitions. It is now the largest eye center in the Philippines, serving 60,000 patients every year.
Just recently, Asian Eye was also able to raise the bar further, in terms of patient safety practices, by surpassing its previous standing in healthcare accreditation, from gold to platinum level in the Accreditation Canada International (ACI). ACI assessed Asian Eye’s adherence to international health care standards and recognized its focus on patient safety, high quality services and innovation. Asian Eye is the only ambulatory eye institute in the Philippines to receive this level of accreditation from ACI.
“We are celebrating both our milestones and our future,” says Asian Eye President Mr. Benjamin Liboro, “We have come a long way in helping people to preserve and protect their vision. We have stayed this long because of the hard work and dedication of and the culture of cooperation in our team, and of course, the trust of our patients.”
To commemorate its 15th anniversary, Asian Eye embarked on a year-long celebration in September 2016. It began by supporting the hit Star Cinema film Barcelona: A Love Untold, where it promoted EyeScan. EyeScan is an innovative camera technology that screens for risks or early signs of potentially blinding diseases, such as cataracts, glaucoma, retinal or corneal and external disease.
In March 2017, it also launched the EyeScan Caravan that offered free eye disease pre-screening to over 700 mallgoers of four major malls in Metro Manila – Power Plant Mall, TriNoma Mall, U.P. Town Center and Commercenter Alabang. Dubbed as Life without Filters, the caravanaimed to increase the public’s awareness in the importance of early detection and intervention in preventing blindness. Asian Eye’s booth featured simulation glasses that enabled event participants to experience what it is like to have eye problems, and a photo booth that provided prints that demonstrated how a photo would look to people with different eye conditions.
Asian Eye also launched the 100 Eyes Cataract Surgery Program as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative. It partnered with private organizations like the Rustan’s Commercial Center (RCC), Philippine Italian Association (PIA) and Cataract Foundation of the Philippines, Inc. (CFPI) to provide indigent patients with much-needed cataract surgeries.
“Our mission is to educate the public about the different eye conditions and how these can affect the way they see and the way they live their lives,” explains Asian Eye Vice President and General Manager Mr. Alwin Sta. Rosa, “It is important that they realize that most serious eye conditions have no signs at the onset, and these can lead to blindness if left untreated. Blindness affects the future of the whole family.”
